The DEEP WINTER Photo Challenge has invited these 6 pro ski and snowboard photographers to team up with athletes of their choice to capture the epic powder days, stormy conditions and deep tree skiing of Whistler and Blackcomb mountain's 'typical' January season.

From Wednesday morning to closing time Friday afternoon these photographers will search in and around Whistler Blackcomb for the perfect landscape, abstract, lifestyle and action photos.

IAN COBLE

Seattle based photographer Ian Coble has a proven knack for creating images that connect with people on a personal level. A relative newcomer to the photography game, Coble has quickly established himself as one of the best new talents behind the lens.

It’s no coincidence that many top companies and magazines are turning to him to create the imagery that drives their brand. This photographer promises to be a talent to watch, in this competition and in years to come.

JORDAN MANLEY

Jordan is based between Vancouver and Whistler - shooting mountain biking in the summer, going to university in the fall, and shooting skiing in the winter. He has been shooting professionally for the last few years.

Always trying to do something a bit different, Jordan has been working on self portraits, and this year received Skier magazine's first self-portrait cover.

PAUL MORRISON

More than any other North American ski resort, Whistler offers endless challenges and rewards. In my opinion, the 'Deep Winter Photo Challenge' personifies Whistler more than any other single event.

In January, the BC coast usually experiences huge storms that result in the epic conditions that make Whistler and now, Deep Winter, unrivaled in our sport.

To be returning with Mike Douglas as my team mate and to be a part of the second edition of this event is the highlight of the winter for me. Bring it on!

DANO PENDYGRASSE

Any conversation about photographers in Whistler quickly includes Dano Pendygrasse. In the 15 or so years since Dano started documenting the birth of the snowboard scene in Whistler, his name has become synonymous with excellence in snowboard photography.

Dano has been published around the world in dozens of publications, spent time as a staff shooter for both Transworld Snowboarding Magazine and Snowboarder Magazine before spending the last few years launching the successful Future Snowboarding Magazine in Southern California.

Now back in Whistler (after a three month detour in Honduras), Dano has refocused on his love of mountain photography and continues to challenge himself creatively to bring unique and timeless images into the world. He is currently digging deep into the vaults to bring selected works to the public for the first time.

BRYAN RALPH

Bryan Ralph is a 30 year old ski photographer originally from Peterborough Ontario.

He has lived in Nelson, BC since 1999 where he became inspired to start shoot skiing around 2002.

Bryan loves skiing and has an incredible passion for capturing it behind the lens.

PHIL TIFO

Phil Tifo is a french canadian who grew up in Gatineau, QC. At the age of 19 he took a year off school and headed west to Whistler and see what the big mountains had to offer. That year was the legendary record winter of 98/99. Eventually, what was supposed to be one year out west turned up being ten as of today.

After a few years of restaurant work, Phil wanted to make a living with something more creative, that involved working outside in the mountains. His parents bought him a little Minolta before leaving for Whistler, and he started taking photos of his friends in the pipe just for fun. He decided to shift directions in life and move to Vancouver to study photography.

After a couple years of eating his socks, things slowly started to work out. Phil’s photos began to appear in magazines like Snowboard Canada, Snowboarder and Transworld. Today Tifo works with over fifteen snowboarding publications worldwide and also shoots kayaking and climbing photography during the warm season.

He likes to spend his time either in the mountains of Whistler, on the Squamish granite, or the sunny beaches of California. Although he wants to snowboard as long as he can, he dreams of buying a sailboat, taking off for the tropics to surf for a long long time.
